We’re about to wrap up 2024, so why not do it with some frivolous CES announcements? Like this premium (it has to be premium!) microwave from LG, which has a touchscreen bigger than your iPad. I’m not sure what you’ll see in the three and a half minutes it takes to heat up a butter chicken curry, but you can watch it in glorious full HD resolution.

The touchscreen integrates with LG’s ThinQ smart home dashboard if you think this is the perfect time to change channels on your TV or tinker with smart lights and, er, and other things like compatible Matter & Thread devices. If you have trouble craning your neck from your microwave to your kitchen burners, it can also connect with the company’s induction range ovens to display cooking progress. It’s not a washing machine inside a washing machine, but still, you’ll love CES.

US Treasury says it was hacked in cyberattack linked to China

Documents and workstations of the US Treasury Department were accessed during a cyberattack linked to a “China government-sponsored advanced persistent threat actor.” The attack was pretty nasty, and has been cited as “a major cybersecurity incident.”

The Treasury Department said it has worked with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the FBI to understand the full scope of the breach, but has not shared how long the files and workstations were accessed or what was accessed. Beijing has denied any involvement.

Honestly? 2024 was a dull year for cameras, with new devices introducing minor changes and minor improvements. But drones? Particularly, entry-level ones? DJI made it an interesting year, introducing a number of models including the versatile, easy-to-use Neo, while thwarting the US government’s plan to ban sales from the company.
