Goa, India – With a major announcement that further puts emphasis on the role they have played in the film industry, long-term film actors Rajinikanth and Nandamuri Balakrishna will receive a special felicitation by the Central Government. Their outstanding performance of 50 years in the Indian film industry will be remembered by the prestigious recognition. This will be the first of its kind and will be held as part of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI-2025) at Goa later this year.

Union Minister of State of Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan, officially announced the news. In an interview with the media after a meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawankar of Goa, Minister Murugan indicated enormous contributions of both film giants. The felicitation will be a testimonial of their outstanding careers that have taken over half a century and brought immense influence to millions of viewers in different linguistic film industry.

The prestige granted to Rajinikanth and Nandamuri Balakrishna is a milestone that is difficult to come by in Indian filmmaking. The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in Asia. Since its founding in 1952, IFFI has focused on offering the world cinemas a shared medium, helping them in the realization and appreciation of film cultures of other countries within their respective social and cultural ethos. The festival is organized every year through the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Government of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Government of Goa—attracting filmmakers, industry professionals, critics, and cinephiles worldwide.

The 56th edition of IFFI will be hosted in Goa between November 20 and 28, 2025. Present Projects and Future Announcements

The two actors are still fresh and they are involved in new projects even after half a century in the industry which does not imply their lack of activity.

The most recent film by Lokesh Kanagaraj in which Rajinikanth appeared on the silver screen is the Coolie movie. This much-hyped project involved an all-star cast including Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Upendra, and Aamir Khan, which is evidence of his undiminished capacity to attract top-tier actors.
