Summer 2027 is also turning out to be one of the biggest seasons in the history of Telugu cinema. Currently, four huge big-budget movies Varanasi, AA22, Spirit, and NTRNeel are said to be targeting the same summer. The four movies all have the finest actors collaborating with some of the renowned filmmakers in the nation and so the summer awaited is among the most anticipated seasons in Indian cinema.
Although all four movies are on track to be released in Summer 2027, trade quarters are of the opinion that only two films of the four movies might finally be released in that window since the level of competition and the stakes are too high. Nevertheless, the fact that such releases may come within a short period has already caused fan enthusiasm and anticipation among fans, analysts and distributors.
Varanasi: Globetrotting Fantasy Epic of Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu.
Varanasi is bearing the greatest expectations of the four, owing to the fact that S. S. Rajamouli is the director. The movie was originally called SSMB29 and is directed by Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran and has been designed as science-fiction fantasy action-adventure.
Varanasi, the creation of years of conceptual preparation, was to be an epic of a globetrotter based on strong Indian cultural roots. It will become one of the most costly Indian films ever to be made with an estimated budget of [?]1,300 crore. The film has been shot over Hyderabad, Tanzania, Kenya and Odisha, highlighting the massive scale of the film.
Mahesh Babu is enacting in a dual role that is, he plays Rudhra and Rama, and Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini, whereas Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Kumbha. Being music-composed by M. M. Keeravani, and with VFX under the supervision of V. Srinivas Mohan, the movie is projected to be the Indian film that redefines the scale of Indian filmmaking by the year 2027, including IMAX version.
On one side of the box-office battle, Rajamouli has to offer his strongest content; the other movies have to do the same.
AA22: Allu Arjun and Atlee Aim to Massive Sci-Fi Extravaganza.
The other significant competitor to the Summer 2027 is the much-anticipated AA22, the sci-fi fantasy project of amazing proportions that will unite Allu Arjun and director Atlee. As the founder of his mass-action approach, Atlee is stretching his filmmaking ambition through the construction of this movie based on the supernatural, alien, and high-concept sci-fi core.
The movie will have an estimated budget of [?]500 crore+, making it one of the costliest projects that Allu Arjun is doing in his career. Deepika padukone is also said to be cast in the role of the female lead and this only increases expectations.
As Atlee mass-appeal will mix with the continually expanding pan-Indian fanbase of Allu Arjun, AA22 will be one of the hottest tickets of 2027.
Spirit: High-Intensity Police Saga of Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
Prabhas will come with Spirit, which is a pan-Indian action movie directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Following the success of Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, and Animal Vanga has become one of the hottest debated filmmakers in the country due to his aggressive narrations and risky approach to filmmaking.
Spirit, Prabhas will make his first appearance as a honest and violent police officer in his career. The movie features Triptii Dimri in the main role and T-Series is producing it at a large scale. The movie will be released in several Indian and foreign languages, which is why this film can be described as pan-Indian.
Spirit will be one of the best to vie in the 2027 line up given the box-office dominance of Vanga and the star power of Prabhas.
NTRNeel: a High-voltage period Action Saga.
The fourth big project with Summer 2027 is NTRNeel technology which is the partnership between Jr NTR and Prashanth Neel. Following the release of KGF and Salaar, Neel is credited with designing action dramas that are heavy and full of great characters and high-budgets.
NTRNeel takes place in 1969, in an area where India, China and Bhutan meet. The story is said to be narrated by emotionally charged and intertwined events that occur over a periodic timeline. Jr NTR, Rukmini Vasanth and Tovino Thomas star in the film and have formed a distinct and effective cast.
Because of the reputation held by Prashanth Neel, NTRNeel will present action sequences of style and gritty narration.
A Bigger 2012 to Tollywood.
Having four star-driven projects set to hit the same summer season, Summer 2027 is likely to be a landmark year in terms of Tollywood. Both movies are supported by the presence of one of the leading directors, huge budget and pan-Indian goals. But, having Rajamouli in the fold, the trade analysts feel that Varanasi will have a strategic advantage.
Which films win the release slots will be known in the months before the year 2027, but one fact remains the same – Tollywood is brewing one of the largest cinematic faceoffs it has had ever.
